Tuesday Treats

~After we have dinner, we usually leave all the dishes so we can play with the kids and have some family time before bedtime. Nathan is sweet to help me clean up whatever toys are left in the living room and clear the table after we get the kids in bed. It's so nice to have some help with those chores.

~Since I've not been feeling well with my allergies, I've not really felt like cooking too much. Nathan has been so wonderful to offer to take us out or eat whatever I can find that doesn't take too much preparation.

~He does such a wonderful job putting our kids to bed. He leads them in prayer time and is helping them to hide God's Word in their hearts. It's so great for our kids to see a Godly leader in our home.

Cheese Anyone?

Yesterday morning I stayed home with Ruth because she's teething and not feeling well and Nathan took Dinah and John to church. He stopped at Nakumatt on the way to church to pick up a few things that we didn't get at Uchumi. I had five or six things on the list, one of which was gouda cheese. I had bought a small one at Uchumi on Saturday and we ate half of it for lunch so I wanted him to pick up another one. He called me while he was in the store and said something about the bigger one being cheaper. I didn't really picture how big the bigger one was until he got home with it.

He pulled it out of the bag and I just had to laugh. The gouda is the one he bought for 2000/= (about $26) and the little one beside it is the size I normally buy. The little one shredded is about 2 cups. I don't really think you can tell just how big it is unless you saw it in person.

This is a normal sized apple beside of it.

Wow, we have A LOT of cheese. :) I am VERY proud of my hubby for figuring out that the bigger one was cheaper...in the long run. I'm always trying to figure out the best deals, and it's rubbed off on him. YAY!

Prayer and Praise

Prayer~

We have a meeting with our potential homestudy provider on Wednesday at 9am. Pray everything goes well and they agree to sign the papers we have from our agency in the States.

My allergies are still causing me trouble. It really seems like it's something in our house, but we can't put our finger on what it is. It totally clears up when we are outside or when we leave, but then when we get home, I'm stuffed up once again.

Sweet little Ruth is teething again and having a really hard time with it. She's not eating or sleeping very well and is very irritable. I can see where the new one is coming in so please pray it comes in fast!

Praise~

Things with the adoption are progressing. I know it's moving slowly and that's okay with us. At least we are working on things and getting a few things done.

It's so awesome to see your kids expressing what you've been trying to teach them! Dinah is praying with her babies when she puts them to sleep, holding John's hand and praying when they are pretending they are eating, and John is doing great hiding God's Word in his heart.

Giraffes and Beads

Yesterday we did our usual grocery shopping in the morning along with a little shopping at the souvie market outside Uchumi. Nathan and John got matching African shirts to wear when we come home and we also got a couple things to sell in our African market to raise money for the adoption. We came home, the kids played while I put groceries away, and Nathan had Frank wash the van. We had some lunch...YAY for Uchumi! It is the Kenyan version of a grocery store and they don't have as many western things as Nakumatt does. But we thought we'd give it a try for something different. And they had tuna! It was a little on the expensive side, but we haven't seen it at Nakumatt in a long time. During lunch, we decided that we'd let the kids skip their nap and take them to the Giraffe Center. We went there when we first got here last year and the kids were scared of the giraffes. So, now that's it's been a year, we thought we'd try it again. Plus, now that we're residents, it's less than $4 for all of us to get in. So, here are a few pictures...

You don't realize how big these animals are until you are right next to them. :)

Ruth wasn't scared at all. She was really intrigued by them.

John, on the other hand, was still a little intimidated by them. They give you handfuls of feed to feed them and he would hold the food, but wasn't about to feed it. :)

We took 2 of the short termers with us, Sammi and Joelle. Sammi was the brave one among us and let the giraffe take a piece of food from her mouth.

Dinah petted the giraffe, but by the time I took the picture she had already pulled her hands away. She was SO excited. It was cute to watch her. She's growing up so much.

She didn't mind getting close to the rail when the giraffe wasn't right there.

The picture doesn't do it justice...these animals are HUGE.

They also have tortoises you can touch. I think they likes these a bit more since they weren't so big.

Awww....how sweet. She loves to ride on Daddy's shoulders.

Precious brother and sister.

This picture is of no one in particular. I just wanted you to be able to see how the center is set up. You walk up stairs that are just out of the picture on the left. You can walk all the way around this round building and the giraffes can walk up to it to be fed. They have all kinds of information on giraffes in the inner part of the building.

The one on the right is a young one although you can't really tell that from the picture. The last time we went it wasn't so busy and we got a lot more information on the giraffes. They have them all named, but we didn't get their names yesterday.

Little monkeys. :)

This guy over by the tortoises was making balloon animals for 50/= each (less than a $1).

On the way to the center, we saw this sign outside a house, and we told Dinah it was her house. :) Nathan stopped to take a picture of it on the way back. The nice, big houses put a sign out front with the owners name.

On the way home, we stopped at Kazuri Beads. It's another place where they teach women how to make beads and pottery to help them earn a living. Sorry, I didn't get any pics of the shop. Nathan stays outside with the kids because almost everything in the shop is breakable. :) John is trying to feed Nathan a sour grape.

What a cutie!

Where Have 9 Months Gone??

Today is Ruth's 9 month birthday! It's so hard to believe it's already been 9 months. It's a bittersweet day because it's so much easier now that she's older and sleeping through the night and eating on a four hour schedule, but where in the world did our baby go??

A few things she's up to~

She will walk along with you if you hold her hands, and she REALLY likes it.

She eats small pieces of banana and bread and REALLY likes it. :)

She can SCOOT. She is going wherever she likes and is much happier now that she doesn't have to sit in one place.

She has 2 teeth on the bottom, but we are thinking she might be getting some more because of her fussiness and not taking very long naps.

She LOVES going outside. We put her on a towel with toys and she will just sit there and have the best time by herself or with whoever is out there.

She's eating a bottle every 4 hours with snacks in between. The ounces vary by day so we just have to guess at how much she'll eat.

Huge Praise!

Last week we received an email from our pastor back in North Wilkesboro. He told us that a church up the road from our home church has recently turned their parsonage into a mission house. He called to check on it and the person in charge was gone for the week, but he left a message for him. Our pastor sent us an email yesterday afternoon to tell us that we have the house!! We don't know much about it other than it's a furnished 3 bedroom house. Praise the Lord! Thank you to all who have prayed!

Tuesday Treats

Nathan is a great Mr. Fixit. Saturday he took our computer cord apart, found the problem, and fixed it! Now we can hopefully make it until we come home.

Saturday morning while he was fixing the cord, he had to run to the hangar to use some tools to fix the cord. He took Dinah and John with him so I was able to have some alone time. I love to see him interacting with them. And as you can tell from the pictures yesterday, they loved seeing the airplanes Daddy works on.

He has such a generous heart. Frank came to cut our grass on Saturday and Nathan fixed him some food for lunch, then paid him generously, and gave him a bag of rice. He's always tipping beyond the standard. Whenever we have leftovers that we think the night guards will like, he gets it ready and takes it out to them. I love this about him, but I think if it weren't for me, he would give everything we have away! :)

Isn't it fun to brag on your Sweetie!? What has your Sweetie done for you lately? :)

Airplanes

A lot of the time when an airplane flies over and we can see it, we all have to look for it. If we don't look for it, someone says they hear it. When we're in the car, John can spot an airplane before Daddy sometimes. These kids LOVE airplanes. Even Ruth will look up in the sky at the airplanes. They are so proud to tell you that Daddy works on airplanes, too. They are most definitely their Daddy's children. :)
