A Cultural Experience

We've had beautiful sunny warm days for most of the week. On Thursday, Angie asked if we wanted to go swimming on today since Micah had a day off from school. We woke up this morning with the sun shining bright. So, we got ready and headed to Splash, a small water park, just past the hangar. We got to the entrance and there was a big sign out front saying that they were closed because they had been rented out for the day by a group, sorry for the inconvenience. We quickly came up with a new plan because the kids were screaming to go swimming. :) We headed to the Methodist Guest House because they have a big pool and a kiddie pool. We paid our money and headed to the pool. We got sunblock, swimmies, and life vests on and headed to the water. Talk about f.r.e.e.z.i.n.g! It was really cold! We were enduring it and having a pretty good time. The kiddie pool water was only about thigh high on me so all the kids could stand in it. Ruth had swimmies on and was very adamant about "I'm doing it!" She was floating all over the place on her own and having a great time. About 15 minutes into it, some other Kenyan kids showed up. Then about 15 more minutes and a huge bus showed up with a ton of school kids on it. Needless to say we were a bit overwhelmed. There were so many kids in the kiddie pool the kids didn't want to get back in. Plus it was cold. So we decided to pack up and head home. We tried to get our money back or at least a pass to come back another day when there wouldn't be so many kids. But that didn't work out. Good try, Angie! ;) It was an experience. We definitely felt like the minority being the only wazungu there and Kiswahili being spoken all around us. We'll definitely try the pool again after we've had many warm days to warm the water and maybe on a weekday when there hopefully wouldn't be so many kids. Here are the pictures we took before we headed out. I didn't even have time to get one of Ruth floating around. She was doing so well!
