Favorite Croutons

Since we've moved to Kenya, I've learned to make a lot of things from scratch that you normally just buy in the US. Sometimes it's because we can't get it here, sometimes it's because it doesn't taste very good, and sometimes it's because whatever it is is really expensive. Homemade things taste so much better and are so much better for you! It's been fun learning to make new things and see how they turn out. I have had some flops like homemade hamburger buns but almost everything has turned out well. This week I had Salome make croutons. It was our first time to make them, but they were yummy!! The kids liked just eating them plain. We used homemade whole wheat french bread and they turned out great! I might even make another batch today since we've already gobbled up the batch Salome made on Wednesday.

Favorite Croutons

1 loaf french bread
1/2 c. butter, melted
1/2 tsp. thyme
1/2 tsp. celery salt (I didn't have this either so we just used garlic salt.)
1/2 tsp. savory (I'm not sure what this is. I didn't have it, so we didn't use it.)
1/2 tsp. sage
1/2 tsp. oregano
1/4 tsp. garlic powder or salt

Cut bread into cubes. Mix remaining ingredients. Pour over cubed bread. Bake in a single layer at 350 for 30 minutes.
