Well, I suppose since we can't share his pictures with you, we could share his name. Or the name we will give him. Originally we thought he would either be Peter, Felix, or Simon. Nathan didn't like Felix and I really didn't like Simon and then we looked up the meaning of Peter and found it to be "rock". We really felt like we should give him a name with a significant meaning. So, we started the search for a new name. We found this cool
website that lists all the Biblical names and gives their meanings. We looked at the list for days. We found names with great meanings, but our son would be endlessly teased because of his name. We found names we liked but didn't have a great meaning. We finally settled on Reuben, meaning "behold, a son" or Ezra, meaning "help". Dinah liked Reuben. Ruth liked Ezra. John didn't really have too much of his own opinion. He just took Dinah's advice and said Reuben. Nathan and I didn't really feel one way or the other. So, Nathan sat down and read about each of the men in the Bible and we decided to go with Ezra. Ezra was a man with a strong, godly character. A man of integrity.
For his middle name, we use a family name. And not just some random family member that neither of us knew from generations ago. We like to use a name of someone in our families who have made an impact in our life. And of course, it has to go with the first name we choose. Dinah is Dinah Belle after my mom and Nathan's maternal grandparents who are the Bell's. John is John Culver after my paternal Grandpa. Ruth is Ruth Amelia after Nathan's paternal Grandma. As you can see, these are people who are very special to us. So, Ezra will be Ezra Thomas. More specifically after Nathan's maternal Grandpa. He is a man who we both admire, respect, and appreciate. He is a man who loves his family. He is a man who deeply loves his Lord. We couldn't think of a better family name to give our son!
Ezra will also have a third name. An Ethiopian name. We want him to have a link to his Ethiopian roots. We don't know what this name will be yet. We're trying to recruit some help on that one! If you know of any good Ethiopian names, please let us know!
So, without further ado, we introduce you to Ezra Thomas _______ Roberts!
Great name! Can't wait to see his face as soon as you are able to show us. We celebrate with you!!
