Around Addis

These are some shops not too far from here we stayed. Nathan enjoyed seeing all the Volkswagon Beetles in Addis. There were a lot more than we see in Nairobi.
This isn't far from where we stayed either although I'm not sure the point of the picture.
Tivoli's Restaurant. We ate several meals here. They had a broad range of food. It was very affordable and within walking distance of the guesthouse.
Not sure the point of this one either other than the little children crossing the street alone.
Awash Bank. We order food from Awash Restaurant here in Nairobi.
The International Evangelical Church, otherwise known as IEC, on Saturday for a craft fair. We found lots of cool things here!
A shop on the side of the road just down from Tivoli's.
The old train station. It's now used as a bus stop.
Looking out over Addis.
The Holy Trinity Church.
There were beautiful stained glass windows around the sides. The O.T. was on one side and the N.T. was on the other.
These are the tombs of Emperor Haile Selassie (R) and his wife (L), inside the Holy Trinity Church.  They were huge!
This is the N.T. side.
Us in front of the Holy Trinity Church.
After the church, we went to the National Museum. It was very interesting...much better than the Nairobi National Museum and their 1000s of birds!
They had some amazing paintings.
The small car is a taxi called a "lada."  And behind it is a minibus taxi. We had a great time getting around Addis on the minibuses. We were pros at getting around by the time we left.
Look at all that traffic! Not! We were amazed at how little traffic there was in Addis.
The second church we went to on Sunday. Rebeca, an Ethiopian friend who used to babysit for us here in Nairobi, took us to her church on Sunday after we attended IEC. It was awesome!
Our Ethiopian food one day at lunch. It was great! I think we ate Ethiopian food about 5 or 6 times in the   5 days we were there. Yum, yum!
This is Piazza where we bought a lot of our souvies.
This is looking down the road towards the guesthouse.
If you look behind the pole, you can see the sign for Metro Pizza. We ate here a couple times. Definitely go with the pizza or pasta instead of the sandwiches!
This is an area called Kera. It's where Rebeca lives.
Another shot of Kera.
And another.
A big shopping center near Bole. We didn't actually go in, just drove past a few time.
This was an interesting advertisement for Ethiopian Airlines...the front part of an airplane coming out of a building.
Just another shot of Addis on the way to the airport on Wednesday.
